At Moor Row Primary School, we provide our children with a Personal, Social and Health education (PSHE) which enables them to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives, both now and in the future. Our children are taught how to keep themselves safe as well as how to become healthy and responsible members of society, preparing them to make the most of life and work. We believe that a strong PSHE education is important to help our children develop into well-rounded members of society, who can make a positive contribution to their local community as well as nationally and on a global scale. Our aim is to prepare them for life and work in the modern world. Ensuring they become informed, active and responsible citizens.

When taught well, both as a standalone subject as well as being part of an integral part of all subject areas, PSHE education also helps children to achieve their academic potential.

Our PSHE curriculum is strongly tied to our RSE, relationships and health education. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC) is promoted through the teaching of PSHE.

In our Nursery and EYFS classroom PSHE is taught through the use of real children's literature to cover age-appropriate aspects of PSHE. Other aspects of PSHE are covered though continuous provision such as turn taking and being kind to each other. Aspects of PSHE such as hygiene and healthy eating are encouraged through school provision and routines.

Our provision has two distinct forms:

PSHE as a curriculum subject within the classroom:

We use a spiral curriculum approach over a two year rolling plan in each class.

We support our PSHE curriculum  by attending different workshops and inviting visitors into the school.  Career education is supported by Year 5 & 6 attending a career fair introduced by the local Business Partnership group. As we are a school situated near the coast we further focus on beach & water safety. We also further support the PSHE curriculum when gaps are identified in pupils understanding or when a need arises especially in Digital & Internet safety.  Both the Fire service and Police deliver regular workshops to our children.

We deliver the child friendly safeguarding curriculum of 'Kidsafe'.  This is delivered as part of our two year rolling plan and is delivered by our trainind ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant).

PSHE that permeates all aspects of life in school:

Many aspects of the life and ethos in Moor Row Primary School strengthen and enhance PSHE provision and are linked to our school values as well as British values.

British values at Moor Row Primary School are taught both implicitly and explicitly. Assemblies focusing on British Values are planned and we also have a display celebrating elements of the curriculum where pupils demonstrate British Values.

The vision for children, staff and others linked to our school is ‘Learning for Life’ through the values of Manners, Respect & Success. Our school ethos has a strong PSHE focus. During our Friday assembly children are nominated for the headteacher award which has a strong link to our school values. These values also underpin our policies, procedures and teaching in school.
